Where to Stay at Štrbské Pleso

Wake up at the lake and you have the best hour of the day to yourself. Here is where to sleep — and when a different base makes sense.

Most visitors see Štrbské Pleso between ten and four. Stay overnight and it becomes another place: reflections at dawn, an empty lake path after dinner, and a head start of two hours on every trail.

There are four sensible bases. Štrbské Pleso itself for the lake, the western hikes and skiing; Starý Smokovec for the most central position on the railway; Tatranská Lomnica for Lomnický štít and the bigger ski area; and Poprad for lower prices, AquaCity and onward travel.

Guest scores are Trip.com’s (out of 10), checked in October 2026. We do not quote nightly rates, because mountain prices swing hugely between ski weekends, summer and the shoulder season — every card links to Trip.com for live availability. Two well-known lakeside hotels, Solisko and FIS, were not listed on Trip.com when we checked, so they are not linked here.

  • Serious hiking? Stay at the lake — or add a night in the mountain hotel at Popradské pleso before Rysy.
  • Arriving by train? Choose a hotel near the station at the lake or in Starý Smokovec.
  • With children? A hotel with a pool at the lake, or the AquaCity hotels in Poprad.
  • Watching the budget? A pension at the lake outside high season, or Poprad at any time.

Booking tips

  • July, August, Christmas to New Year and the February school holidays sell out weeks ahead.
  • Ask about parking, and whether a regional guest card with lift and pool discounts is included.
  • Many hotels have wellness areas; some charge extra for them.
  • Mountain huts and the hotel at Popradské pleso are booked directly, not through booking platforms.

Once your bed is sorted, see what to do and which day trips are worth adding.
