Solisko is the ridge that closes the western side of the resort, and its front summit, Predné Solisko (2,117 m), is the most accessible real peak in the High Tatras. A chairlift does the first 450 vertical metres, leaving a steep hour on foot to the summit cross.
Even if you go no further than the hut terrace at the top of the lift, the view is the one you came for: the lake as a dark coin in the forest, the Poprad basin beyond and the Low Tatras on the horizon.
What to see and do: Solisko Chairlift & Predné Solisko
Ride the chairlift
The lift starts at the ski stadium, a 15-minute walk from the lake, and takes a little under ten minutes to reach about 1,840 m. It runs in both the summer and winter seasons, with maintenance breaks in spring and late autumn and stoppages in high wind — check the operator’s status page on the morning.
Chata pod Soliskom
The small hut beside the top station serves soups, dumplings and tea and has a few beds. It is one of the most easily reached high huts in the Tatras and a good lunch stop for families.
Climb Predné Solisko
The red-marked trail from the hut gains about 280 m over rocky steps and boulders. Allow an hour up and 45 minutes down. There is no exposure, but you need proper shoes and sure footing; the summit is small and has a cross and a full panorama of the Furkotská and Mlynická valleys.
Walk down instead of riding
The blue trail descends from the hut to the lake in about 1¼ hours through dwarf pine and forest. Alternatively follow the blue marks north-west into the Furkotská valley and return on the yellow trail.

How to get to Solisko Chairlift & Predné Solisko
- Walk from the lake past Hotel FIS to the ski stadium (about 15 minutes); the lift station is signposted “Solisko”.
- On foot all the way: blue trail from the stadium to the hut, about 1¾–2 hours and 500 m of ascent.
- Single and return lift tickets are sold at the bottom station; prices change by season, so check current rates.
Insider tips
- The summit trail above the hut is closed from 1 November until the park reopens the high trails in late spring or mid-June; the lift and hut stay open in winter for skiers.
- Afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August — be off the summit by early afternoon.
- It is noticeably colder and windier at the top station: pack a windproof even on a warm day.
